Community Outreach

Emergency Residence Project:

St. John's joins other community groups in Ames to provide evening meals for those at the shelter who do not have a permanent home. Our congregation is responsible for making dinner once a month on a Wednesday evening throughout the year and delivering it to the shelter in time for dinner. If you are interested in helping out with this important service, there is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board as you come into the church through the south entrance. If you have any questions, please speak with the Swensons. Thanks!

Stork's Nest:

St. John's provides office and meeting space for the Stork's Nest program which provides education, support, and much needed supplies for young expectant mothers.

Food at First:

On the fourth Saturday of every month, we prepare and serve a noon meal for those in need at First United Methodist Church in Ames. We begin meal preparation at 10:30, and are usually finished by 1:00. If you would like more information, please contact the church office.

Matthew 25 Home:

We support those returning to us from incarceration through joint sponsorship of the Matthew 25 home.

CROP Walk:

In October each year, we join with other churches to walk for the world.

Responding to the world's main development challenges and to the calls of civil society, the MDGs promote poverty reduction, education, maternal health, gender equality, and aim at combating child mortality, AIDS and other diseases.
