Church Personnel
Father Al holds degrees from St. John’s University and the General Theological Seminary in New York City. He has a Doctor of Ministry from Drew University (New Jersey). He has been engaged in congregational ministry since 1972. As a priest he served four different congregations in the Diocese of New Jersey and on the bishop’s staff in the Diocese of Pennsylvania before coming to Ames in 1991. He has served on just about every committee that exists in The Episcopal Church, on many local and state boards, and as a hospice chaplain. He is married to Joan who works at ISU in the Department of Animal Science, has three grown children and five grandchildren.

Deacon Don serves faithfully as Father Al's assistant during Sunday Eucharist or when Fr. Al is away. He is also the Spiritual Director for the Matthew 25 House, and the Chaplain to the Story County Jail. Don Payer graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1954 and practiced law in Ames until he retired in 2010.
He was ordained a Deacon in 1995 and has been a chaplain at the Story County Jail from 1995 until his recent retirement at the end of 2011.

Diane has been instrumental in establishing a comprehensive Christian Formation Program for St. John's. As Director of Christian Formation, Diane coordinates programs for all ages and is particularly active in curriculum development and activity planning for children and youth. She facilitates our parish's involvement in Diocesan events for all ages.
